Nuanced, delicious coffee from the Philippines can present an array of flavors like cacao, honey, and tangerine. While each sip bursts with flavor on its own, Filipino sweets can amplify and compliment these memorable flavors giving each coffee drinker a full experience. Filipinos are known for their sweet tooth and their cuisine reflects that, as it offers unique delicacies that speak volumes about its origin as an Archipelago in Southeast Asia with Western influences.
Ensaymada
Ensaymada is a buttery, bread typically topped with cheese that’s soft, rich texture complements the clean body of our Philippine Coffee. Its roots are Spanish, as the Philippines was a Spanish colony for about 350 years. The thing that makes Filipino ensaymada distinct is that it’s baked with butter instead of lard giving it a buttery, mouth-watering taste.
Suman
Suman is another favorite pairing with coffee. Suman is a rice cake cooked in coconut milk and wrapped in banana leaves. Its chewy, sticky texture rounds out our delicate coffee. The suman’s muted flavors are amplified by the burst of flavor of each coffee sip.
Hopia
Rooted in Chinese origins, hopia has a thin, flaky pastry crust filled with sweet filling. Traditional flavors are munggo, mung bean paste, and ube, purple yam. Nowadays, bakeries like Hopia Like It in Los Angeles offer an array of flavors ranging from Peach Mango, Nutella, Guava and Buko Pandan, in addition to the traditional flavors. The flaky, crusty texture and filling reminiscent of the Philippine palette complements the dynamic, natural flavors of our coffee.
Pandesal
Pandesal is a Filipino bread, typically eaten in the morning for breakfast. It’s good plain or with a spread. The name pandesal literally translates to salt bread in Spanish, though the taste of the bread is sweeter than it is salty. The traditional way to eat pandesal is to dip the actual bread directly in your coffee. The bread will gain a shade of beautiful brown and absorb all the coffee flavor to give you a burst of our coffee flavor. It may sound a little out of ordinary, but we guarantee the texture of the bread and hint of salt will leave your taste buds asking for more.
Whatever pastry, rice cake or bread, you choose to pair with our coffee, we hope that it brings your tastebuds to flavors of our Philippine origin, adding an extra, sweet touch to your daily ritual.
